Florida man killed in hit-and-run accident

In Florida, it is not unusual for people to walk to their destinations. However, while pedestrians might take every precaution, such as walking on sidewalks, using crosswalks and obeying traffic signals, this doesn't mean that they will be immune to accidents.

In one recent incident, an automobile was traveling northbound when it struck a 59-year-old man who was crossing the road. The driver, however, did not stay at the scene of the crash, but instead fled. According to authorities, the pedestrian had the right-of-way, as he was attempting to cross the road in a crosswalk. Police are looking for the hit-and-run driver. The vehicle, according to police, would have sustained damage to its front-end.

According to one witness who was in his home at the time, there was a loud bang and then the sound of an automobile horn honking for several minutes. More witnesses confirmed that the driver of the automobile honked the horn, but, according to them, did not reduce their speed or stop to see if the victim was hurt. Unfortunately, the pedestrian did not survive the crash.

This accident serves as a reminder to both keep an eye out for pedestrians and to stay at the scene of the accident. It is especially important to be aware of pedestrians crossing the road at intersections, as they may have the right-of-way at the time. Also, should an accident occur, it is important not to flee the scene. The accident victim might need aid, and, should a driver flee the scene, not only could they face civil liability in the form of a lawsuit, but they could face criminal charges as well.

Hopefully, the hit-and-run driver in this accident will be located, so they can be held accountable for their actions. Those who have been injured in pedestrian accidents may want to consult with a personal injury attorney, who can assist them in making decisions regarding what steps to take next.
